Is there a touch id solution for the Mac Mini?

Is there a touch id solution for the Mac Mini? Windows Hello is powerful on both laptops and desktops, but I cannot find any fingerprint scanner or face id for a Mac Mini. Is there a solution?

You can lock your Mac remotely using Find My and unlock it by keying in the unique pin https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204756

You can also add a firmware password https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204455

As for Windows Hello, it’s useless as biometric access cannot be forced: there is always the option to type password in and that option cannot be disabled. No thanks, hello goodbye.

As for Face and Touch for desktops, the issue is adding and integrating custom hardware at a cost of hundreds of dollars minimum, on top of development costs. Given that a desktop by definition is for a static, secure, known environment i.e. isn’t anywhere everywhere mobile, souping it up for mobile security would be a huge overkill not just from a design point of view, but also marketing. It would also be incredibly poor bang for buck. So scratch that, not happening.

I never raised Find My Mac or unlocking my Mac remotely, etc. I am familiar with the Mac OS system.

I simply am asking about utilizing the same Touch ID that is on a current MacBook Air or Pro into the current Mac Mini (or iMac, for that matter).

As Apple states in the MacBook Air section: "The advanced security and convenience of Touch ID are built right into

MacBook Air. Simply place your finger on the Touch ID sensor and — just like that — your Mac unlocks. Use your fingerprint to immediately access locked documents, notes, and system settings, without entering yet another password. Online shopping is even easier — select Apple Pay at checkout, and with just one touch you’re done. No need to enter shipping or billing info, and your card details are never shared. With Touch ID, your private information stays private."

I do most of my secure work on my desktop with an ethernet cable connection. Why isn't there an available option for utilizing a fingerprint scanner to use Touch ID? If the $20-99 fingerprint readers available for Windows are not sufficient, Apple could sell its own -- or even design the function into the touchpad. I remember when Apple had its "Think Different" advertisements, coming up with creative alternatives for people.

It seems as though there appears to be no functionality allowing that. If someone knows differently, it would be helpful.

I am an Apple user, but many Windows laptops have fingerprint readers and face recognition that work quite well and are secure. There are some desktops, I believe, that also incorporate the face recognition. The Logitech Brio webcam incorporates face recognition for Windows, both laptops and desktops.

But this isn't about the two systems, it was a simple question of whether there is an option for Apple desktops. If there is not, so be it. That's all I asked.

for windows to login using face recognition, the camera has to be verified for microsofts windows hello ,

if you want to know more

there nothing which would block apple to have a similar verification for touch id or face id by third party hardware manufacturers but currently it seems as if they do not, is under the impression their main mac sales are laptops

you can request they start up such a project using their feedback channel

https://www.apple.com/feedback/

if they do it will be somewhat unlikely they will just adopt Microsoft approval for their hello for their face id and touch id

No, because Touch ID is integrated into the main hardware making it impossibly secure unlike the $20-99 readers Windows ones which, because they are third party discrete devices, are by definition insecure.

Touchpad is not an option to integrate TouchID because it isn’t integrated into the main hardware, but is a separate device, meaning it isn’t secure enough. For that same reason, it’s possible to integrate TouchID on the iMac display but the cost/benefit/demand ratio makes it highly unlikely.

Short summary: TouchID functionality doesn’t exist on Apple desktops for reasons above, and what exists on Windows (they thought different you see), isn’t worth a buck.
