Logic Pro X Library backup to hard drive

Hello community,

I have relocated my library to my external hard drive in Logic Pro X. Now Logic does not recognize any of my files. I have tried to create symbolic links but without success. Now Logic has redownloaded the basic sounds but I still dont have access to my full library.

Please if anyone can help I will be forever grateful¡ I have already lost 2 days trying to figure this out.

Thank you

What would you recommend in my case?

First, stop moving things around.

The safest approach could be to start over again.

  • Let Logic download the essential content. This is supposed to restore the content on the local drive.
  • Use the RSL command to relocate the Library on the external drive.
  • Download the rest of the Library if needed

Again: Don't rename, copy, move.... anything related to Logic.

You can also do some cleanup on the external drive. Why do you have applications on the external drive? Let them in the Applications folder on the local drive.

Thanks for the details.

The format of the external drive (Mac OS Plus = Mac Os Extended) seems OK.

The folder structure on the external drive doesn't match what I would expect after the Relocate Sound Library command. A "Library" folder is expected at the root level.

Unless there is something specific to the macOS and Logic Spanish versions, my guess is something happened after the use of the Relocate Sound Library.

Why do you have a copy of the Logic application on the external drive?

Hello,

We need more information in order to help you. Did you use the Relocate Sound Library command in Logic? What happened and what did you do exactly?

macOS and Logic versions?

Format of the external drive?

Actual content and folder structure on the external drive?

If Logic downloaded essential content then this means all links to the Sound Library on the external drive are lost.

If I;d rename the folder to Library, you think I can make the symlinks again?

You mean manually? If you know what you're doing, yes it can work. Since I don't know what you did previously I can't confirm.

As I said, If you use the RSL command again first, you can then figure out what is the right folder structure and content location.

Again, what is the use of the copy of the Logic application on the external drive?

Thank you very much for your response.

Yes, I used the Logic relocate library function. First the hard drive was formatted as Mac Time Machine. I had to empty the hard drive and reformat it to be able to relocate Logic library. Logic informed the relocation was done successfully, however upon opening Logic again, none of my files could be found.

MacOS 10.15.4

Logic 10.4.8

Hard drive format: Mac OS Plus

External hard drive:

In the Logic Content folder is where the entire Library was saved.

I did, I renamed some of the folders, I had a big drama with the hard drive because of Time Machine, initially I could not relocate the library then I formated it, finally I relocated the library but I renamed something, then I think that was my mistake I altered something. What would you recommend? Upload again the library?

Thanks for replying

Hey again, thank you so much for your help.

I did it again, I downloaded the whole library first to my disk and then I relocated to my external drive, I did not move, copy or renamed anything and seems the process was okay.

But now I cannot see the Midi instruments completely, just some basics and the keyboard seems not be available.

I do not know if I still have to do something else in order to enable the whole library and the keyboard.
