Backspace bug in slide-to-type

I like Apple’s slide-to-type keyboard, generally. It doesn’t seem to learn my vocabulary as well as Swype used to do, but it works fine.

But an accidental touch of the backspace key right before starting a word with M will wipe out the previous word or two. This has caused me some embarrassment when I was sure everything was fine, then I have to go fill in words.

For examp (This is what happens.)

For example, many times when I try to type a sentence like this, a tiny slip of a finger will cause not only the word “many,” but also the last couple letters of “example” to just go away.

I never had this problem with Gboard, Swype, or SwiftKey. I no longer use those keyboards for various reasons. But at least they didn’t wipe out much of what I typed!

Can somebody at Apple fix this please?
