AppleTV Dolby Atmos and LG TV Passthrough

I have just purchased an LG 65NANO866NA TV and Sonos Arc Soundbar. Both amazing products and bought specifically for watching movies with Dolby Atmos.

However, it doesn’t matter what settings I use on the TV I cannot get the Sonos Arc to play a Dolby Atmos soundtrack from imovies or any app suck as Netflix, Disney+ or Amazon Prime.

I can get 5.1 Bitstream passthrough but not an LPCM passthrough! eARC is enabled and guidance from Apple has been followed. My TV only shows an option for PCM not LPCM.

What am I doing wrong or is it not possible?

Also, do the AppleTV+ inbuilt app stream Dolby Atmos? If it did then this would solve the issue as the native Netflix TV app does provide Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

Apple recommends Apple TV → audio equipment → TV, as Apple’s Atmos output is a high bandwidth form that may not be supported by other equipment in between.

Additionally, Settings﹥Apps﹥iTunes Movies and TV Shows﹥Quick Start must be On.

Play audio in Dolby Atmos or surround sound on your Apple TV - Apple Support

Apple TV 4K uses a high bandwidth form of Dolby Atmos that doesn’t work over ARC connections.

I’ve got Apple looking into my AppleTV 4K as they think it could be an issue with my box. If not then I’ll have to go back to LG

I can confirm there is Dolby Atmos (DD+) from Netflix, Disney + and AppleTV+ apps. Prime Video should do but doesn’t always seem to. The sound is awesome when in Dolby Atmos.

I have the same issue with the 86” LG Nanocell 2020 model. I am connected through eARC with a high speed data cable, but no sound when playing Atmos content on Apple TV. Natuve apps work fine.

I see. I did also see threads about issues with LG's LPCM support, or lack thereof.

So do all 2016 and onward model Visio 4K Tv’s via the Apple TV App in the SmartCast app on your tv. Also any iPad Pro or iPhone 11 Pro,pro Max and of course any of the new iPhone 12 you can steam and airplay to any Vizio 4K tv in Dolby Atmos and works well on these tv’s as hands down Vizio for the price and value and features are great 4K options especially now that they have oled tv’s that beat every maker out there at price
