"No keyboard"

New 2020 MBA. Sporadically, when opening the clam shell, neither the keyboard nor trackpad will work. After about 15-20 seconds, a Bluetooth Setup Assistant dialog appears and says "There isn't a wireless mouse or trackpad connected." 10 second more and the dialog goes away and my keyboad and trackpad start working as normal. 30 seconds too long of a wait though.

I've had this laptop for about 2 months. It happens a couple times per week. Others have reported the exact same problem with the 2020 MBP. See for example https://cfenollosa.com/blog/seven-years-later-i-bought-a-new-macbook-for-the-first-time-i-dont-love-it.html.

I typically keep bluetooth turned off. I thought that might be the problem, but even after re-enabling it, the problem continued to occur.

This must be a sleep-related bug in the OS. Apple, please help.

Hello technotarek and welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

I see you are having an issue with the system keyboard and trackpad not being recognized on a MacBook Pro. As they both eventually are recognized, this potentially points to a software issue rather than hardware. These steps may help.

1) Start by doing a safe boot of the Mac. This will clear some cache files, turn off some system extensions and log-in items and give you a good foundation. After doing the safe boot, reboot normally and test.

2) If the issue persists after a safe boot, set up a test user account in order to isolate the issue to the system or the user data and ultimately resolve it.

Take care.
