Hi,
I cannot get any response from my screen using all normal gestures. I have tried the reset home/power for 10 sec which rebooted but still nothing. I do have a closed padlock displayed top centre of the display.
Can anyone help please?

If the touch screen is unresponsive, you’ll not be able to directly access the iPad. Your only remaining options are:
a) attempt a Factory Restore in the hope that the problem may be resolved.
b) if (a) isn’t possible, attempt a DFU Restore with the same aim.
c) seek assistance directly from Apple.

If iPad isn’t responding, do one of the following:
If iPad doesn’t turn on, gets stuck during start up or is otherwise unresponsive, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen.
So your iPad correctly responds to the forced-restart? After restart, what do you see on screen?
You can attempt a Factory Reset - which will erase all settings and locally stored data. If you have a iCloud or iTunes backup, your data can be restored to your iPad at the end of the reset procedure.
Hi,
as indicated I have carried out the action described with the home button and the top button. The Ipad restarts normally but it remains unresponsive to tap, slide or other gestures.
Is it possible to do a hard (factory) reset using just buttons available i.e. without screen input?

It did, it went through the normal startup process with the Apple logo displayed and then to the normal home screen prompting ID entry but it won't respond to any screen input using normal input gestures. The locked padlock top centre of the display is still showing...
Thanks for all your help. Both update and factory restore options tried but with no success. The touch screen fails to respond and I guess this is a hardware fault as factory restore should have solved it. I doubt the DFU route can help here.
