iPhone 11 camera square mode changes to rectangle when transferred to Photo stream

When I take a picture in square mode on my iPhone 11, it changes the photo to rectangular when it uploads it to photo stream. Is there a way to stop this? I can do the same thing with an old iPhone 5 with no problems. I really don't want to have to edit EVERY photo that goes into Photo stream after they are uploaded. It appears that it uploads a 4:3 version instead of square. As you can see by the attached screenshots it appears to have gone into photo stream ok, but when clicked on, it changes and shows more of the picture on the top and bottom.

Any ideas other than "use the iphone 5" ?
