Kid Apple ID on old devices. Hi, I installed Apple ID on a mini IPAd 2, all the set up worked well but when trying to use App Store it doesn’t recognizes the Apple ID. Do you know the reason?

Hi, I just created new kids IDs for my kids since they were all using my old devices but with my own Apple ID and it began to be a problem when saving photos, sharing messages and games progress.

So I erased my old devices and set them up with each of my kids ID. The iPhone 7 works perfect. He can go in to the App Store and select apps and games to download, and I receive a message on my personal iPhone to approve.

But for my other 2 kids I used older devices and they are not working:

  • Mini IPAd 2 : The set up was Ok but when getting in to App Store to download games it doesn’t recognize my kids Apple ID as a correct one. Is there anything I can do to solve this?
  • Iphone 6: The set up was OK, but when using App Store it asks him to send me a message to approve, but I don’t receive any message on my phone. So it never gets downloaded. Do you know how can I solve this?

See What to do when the Mac App Store shows a different Apple ID for software updates https://www.macworld.com/article/3267709/mac-app-store-apple-id.html. This document refers to a prior owner, but is also applies to cases where a current owner's old Apple ID is the problem.

Basically, If an app is purchased/downloaded using one Apple ID, then you can't update it with another Apple ID. The app is inextricably linked to the first Apple ID. You'll have to delete it and repurchase/download it again with the second Apple ID.
