Apple News - news notifications not wanted

I realise I cannot remove the app from my Mac, unfortunately, but I'd really like to remove notifications. I have looked for the notifications editor for this app and cannot find it. Can anyone tell me how I can remove the notification feature so I don't have Apple News messages popping up several times a day.

I really dislike Apple News and if I could I'd delete it I would. Sadly Apple prefers to ram it down my computer's throat

:(

It's been awhile since I ran Mojave. If you are still using 10.14, System Preferences > Notifications > News. Uncheck everything and select "None" for "News alert style".
