I want to add metadata to pdf documents and thought this would be something I could do using the annotations window in inspector. But when I add (eg) "First published in 2007 at www.foobar.com/doc" this note appears in the annotation window of every pdf document that I open in Preview. Is this a bug, or have I misunderstood something? What could annotations possibly be for if nothing I write is file-specific?
I don't think you add there but what ever the markup you make get's listed above. My Screen for info:
I think I'll just put the metadata in a text file in the same folder...
Please mention the macOS version?

To be clear can you post a screenshot where you are trying to add your annotations?

I'm choosing inspector in the tools menu (or cmd-I) and then the annotations window.
I don't want to markup the text, I want to add metadata to the file.
Why are annotations in Preview inspector the same in every file?
