Step counter on Apple Watch series 3

When I am knitting, is it usual for the step counter, to keep going up on my watch .??

Also at work when I'm scanning things through the till, it counts the movements as steps! Knitting with apple watch Is there a way of knitting with apple watch without it counting steps, and without taking the watch off? If I take it of, I often forget to take it on again. Then the hole counting my steps is wasted… :) And I like to knitt when I have five minutes.

Yes it also happens with crocheting.

Yes because the watch's accelerometer detects the movement of your watch arm and interprets this as motion/steps.

My wife sometimes knits 20 miles a day.
