ios 13.5.1 storage issues

Memory storage usage under 'other' has gone by 8.4 GB in my iPhone 6S, after I installed iOS 13.5.1.

How to reduce this? my phone is a 16GB memory device and now it is always full, as the 'System' and 'Other' takes up 15 GB. Is there a fix to bring the Other storage use.

It is infuriating. I surrendered and backed mine up on iCloud and then reset my phone removing everything and then installing the backup. So far (about 24 hours) it has remained stable. I cleared up 16GB with the reset. My ‘other‘ category is now 3.8GB it had grown to 18GB. I haven’t reactivated some of my apps. Will probably bring them back one at a time and monitor things for a few days before adding another.

It’ll probably go just fine, but it’s just a temporary fix regardless.

The perceived need for offloading of stuff may also be Apple’s plan, for us to buy more storage and/or phones.

The problem needs to be fixed instead of us working around it only to be defeated by the “Other” storage again and again.

Question is, What is “Other” that all the sudden eats lots of space?

I wiped my iPhone 6S clean by resetting it and by doing that I got a lot of memory back. Thereafter I reinstalled my apps back. However, 2 weeks later and my phone has the same problem because it has the same updated IOS 13.5.1 version on it. Can’t use any apps anymore. Useless piece of metal. Sucks big time. Great job making me want to switch to Samsung Galaxy. Great job Apple.

Same here- I have a 64gb phone and I deleted every single photo (no shared albums or recently deleted either), all my attachments to messages, removed and re-added my mailbox, cleared my browser history, deleted a ton of apps, and all my podcasts. Every time I create extra space “other” claims it in a matter of hours. Where I had 100s of photos the other day on my phone now I can barely have 5. I need to roll forward or back- this stinks!

The ‘storage corruption’ answer doesn’t give anyone confidence that the problem won’t return or what the cause of the corruption could have been. The inability to have visibility into the other category is a concern to me. I think Apple’s inability to address the root cause for the many of us that have been afflicted by this is concerning. I have had an iPhone for years but I don’t HAVE to have an iPhone.

I’m simply advising readers new to this forum that Apple has been unable to offer any assistance with this problem. Or from my experience even acknowledging that they have a problem. You in a snarky manner directing them to a solution that they likely already seen but aren’t willing/able to take isn’t really useful guidance. Wouldn’t you say?

Apple certainly structures their other memory in a fashion that makes it impenetrable for diagnosing this problem. So I look at my replies as a PSA, not me telling anyone where I’m spending my money.

?? I actually spent quite an amount of time on the phone with a very nice Apple technical

service representative. Advising/reporting the problem and advising them of the issue being repeatedly posted on this forum. He responded by sending me an explanation of what ‘other’ memory entailed? He was however unable to find any reports or solutions for this problem. I’m assuming he logged the problem I’m also assuming nothing has been done.

Hi! I’m having the same problem, my concern is that I will loose the text messages from my recently departed momma if I factory reset. She did not have an iPhone so they aren’t iMessages. Is there a way to add these to my backups because thus far they have no been in any backup only iMessages are included. Any help would be greatly appreciated sir!

There isn’t really a way to pick and choose what’s included in a backup. If you backup using iCloud or iTunes, text messages are included in the backup (iMessage, SMS, MMS). You can read more about what is included in an iCloud backup here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT207428, and more about each type of backup here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204136

If you want to be extra sure, you can always take screenshots of the texts and either email them to yourself or transfer the screenshots to your computer.

I’m sorry to hear about your mom!
