Watch sensor burns

On the

on the 12 June 2020 I reported and sent pictures of serious sensor burns on my wrist. Apple Informed me they hadn’t heard of burns from the watch. It was never reported before. They would do an investigation and get back to me in five days. I now see there are numerous complaints from watch sensors causing burns. This watch is unsafe and I plan on following up on this.

Medical silicone tape should help reduce your scar as well as form a barrier. I only get the burn now if I forget to put the tape on. The tape I use is reusable a number of times but not cheap. Apple should be trying to resolve this problem of even their latest watch.

They arranged a courier the same day to collect from my house and take it to Ireland for investigation. Allergy / irritation can be ruled out due to the presentation of the marking / healing process (peeling) and scarring. My dad is a doctor which is useful. I am unsure of my AppleCare status but there is also UK consumer rights that would come into play for injury. What has your lawyer suggested?

I am located in the US, state of Kentucky.

I am very disappointed in this large corporation having very little concern in regards to their customers safety with their product. Do you know if there is a class action lawsuit pertaining to this issue? It’s about the principle now. Luckily, I felt the burning sensation before it became a bad burn. The burn was directly on the skin where the watch sat on my wrist. I did seek medical attention for the burning sensation.

You raise a great point! I struggle with this burn three to four times a year (this is three weeks in now) and like you I typically apply my sunscreen while my watch is on but thats not always 100% the case. I’m pretty sure I applied my sunscreen prior to putting on my watch this day because I remember that I didn’t want the overspray gumming up the screen.

I hope it’s something as simple as that. :) That’s still an unacceptable defect but possibly one I can work around.
