Cannot add HP Laserjet M1132 MFP to MAC OS X

Hello,

My old mac can no longer see my old HP.

I followed all Apple and HP instructions on trouble shooting. I reset the printer, deleted all printers. reinstalled HP driver that recommended from an official HP website but I still have no printer appear for me to add (+) to my printer system preferences. I tried connecting my printer (only USB) to my friend 's pc and it was woking but not with mine. Could you please help me reinstalling my printer???

Ps. I cannot upgrade my IOS anymore (El Capitan,MacBook Pro 2013)

Your printer should be operable under Mac OS X El Capitan, here is a link for the driver,

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-pro-m1132-multifunction-printer-series/3965842/model/3965843

once downloaded double-click to install.

Check your USB ports on your mac are working.

Plug the printer in to the electricity supply, switch it on, connect it to your MBP.

Open System Preferences> Printers & Scanners and click on the Add button.

If you have a MacBook Pro from 2013 you can upgrade to the following OS's.

Please use Safari to access the following links do not use Firefox

How to upgrade to macOS High Sierra - Apple Support

Before upgrading make a full back up of your Mac.

Check that third party apps you use have updates available for the new OS.

https://roaringapps.com

Check that your printers/ scanners etc have updated drivers and software available for the new OS.

Connect your mac to your router via cable rather than rely on WiFi.

Do not use your mac while it is downloading

and do not use any other devices that share the same internet connection.

If the App Store says Open then it is detecting a previous download of the install app

go to the Applications folder locate Install macOS ******.app.

Move it to the Trash, empty the Trash.

Restart, click on the link again, the App Store should say ‘Get' or 'Download'.

If you are considering upgrading to Catalina be warned that it does not support 32bit apps.

Your Mac is probably running 32bit apps and these will need to be updated to 64bit apps,

some updates may be free, some may be paid. Use this app to discover which apps you have

are 32bit, https://www.stclairsoft.com/Go64/. Once the list has been created you can then

contact the developers of the apps to see if they provide 64bit updates.

Hello Eau Rouge,

Thank you very much for your help. I am sorry for miss-information, I am using MBP early 2011. I can no longer update any software. IOS X 10.11.6 is the furthest I could go.

Anyhow, I previously done what you advised.

After I downloaded and installed the HP driver. ( I reset/deleted the printer before reinstalling.) There's still no printer appears for me to add in the printer System Preferences. I think the USB is still ok as it was working when I paired my printer to my friends' pc, but when it connected to mine. There is a message appears, "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." ignore or eject. So far I still cannot add my printer back.

Ps. This problem has happened for a long time, but some times, I had the printer back on by restarting either my mac or printer or both for many times. But seems like this method won't give me any luck any more.

May I please have your further suggestion?

So now you have a MacBook Pro 2011, a 2011 MacBook Pro can upgrade to High Sierra if you want.

If you are interested open Safari and click on the link below.

How to upgrade to macOS High Sierra - Apple Support

Check compatibility

You can upgrade to macOS High Sierra from OS X Mountain Lion or later on any of the following Mac models. Your Mac also needs at least 2GB of memory and 14.3GB of available storage space.

MacBook introduced in late 2009 or later

MacBook Air introduced in late 2010 or later

MacBook Pro introduced in mid 2010 or later

Mac mini introduced in mid 2010 or later

iMac introduced in late 2009 or later

Mac Pro introduced in mid 2010 or later

To find your Mac model, memory, storage space, and macOS version, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu . If your Mac isn't compatible with macOS High Sierra, the installer will let you know.

Don't know what is going on with the printer though, everything points to it being compatible

with your mac.

Does not make any sense at all to me.

I was asking if the USB slots on your MacBook Pro are working.

Thank you again. I will try to upgrade to High Sierra after backing up.

About USB both 2 ports are working, but there was always an error message appeared when I connected my printer to my Mac using USB cord.

The message is "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." Then I have to click "ignore" or "eject".

There were no printer appears for me to add to my mac after all my attempts. (while my friends could add my printer to their PCs.. I thinkmy printer is not broken but there might be some issues on pairing the printer with my mac.
