then I’m told to enter password again followed by code sent to one if my other devices
then I’m told that the username or password is incorrect.
of course it is! My original password doesn’t include a 6-digit code🙄

This sounds like it is related to Two-Factor Authentication. You will need to generate a secure code from another device and type it after your password. Example: password123456
