This is never going to be possible ever!

The 2017, 5th gen, 9.7 inch screen iPad is NOT compatible with ANY Apple Pencil.

The 2017, 5th gen iPad, like many older model iPads, is actually missing a crucial internal hardware screen layer needed for an Apple Pencil to interact with these older iPad screens.

If you need to have an Apple Pencil compatible iPad, you will need to purchase a much newer iPad model.
