Trying to Sync iPhone 5s with iTunes for content transfer

I'm trying to Sync iPhone 5s with iTunes on PC (Windows 7) in order to save the iPhone content and then transfer back to new iPhone.

I get "Syncing iPhone 2 out of 3, Copying Diagnostic Information" message, which disappears and then no Step 3 notification.

I click on iPhone "Device" in left hand column and all sub categories are empty.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hey there, wpfulton,

Thanks for dropping by the Apple Support Communities. I understand that you're getting ready to transition to a new iPhone and are trying to create a backup of your current phone to transfer the data, but are having some issues with the sync. I'm happy to help!

Syncing is a fantastic way to get information from your computer to your iPhone, but it does not back up all the data on your phone to your computer: Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer - Apple Support.

If you want to create a backup, you can do that using iTunes on your Windows PC following the steps outlined in How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support. You can then restore that backup to a new phone, or follow one of the other options also available here: Transfer data from your previous iOS device to your new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support.

More information on iTunes on Windows can be found in Get started with iTunes for Windows - Apple Support.

Best!
