Cursor Keeps Disappearing

I've been running into a frustrating problem where the cursor disappears on me in Mac OS. This happens across multiple apps, either when I control tab on my browser, or begin typing into a textbox, or after I stop moving the mouse for a few seconds. The cursor comes back when I move the mouse or Cmd+Tab to a different app, but it will continue to disappear until I've restarted. I've seen this issue posted a few times, but no one's yet found a solution.

I'm running the latest version of Catalina, and I've already done an NVRAM reset. I'm on a 2014 Macbook Pro, using either the track pad or a Wacom tablet.

Hello williamdevaughn,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!

It is our understanding from your post that the mouse disappears. While you have completed some troubleshooting already, we recommend testing the issue while your Mac is in safe mode and/or in a new user account as well. The following articles have the steps you will need to test the issue in both safe mode and in a new user account:

How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

"Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software as it starts up, including login items, system extensions not required by macOS, and fonts not installed by macOS. It also does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility. And it deletes some system caches, including font caches and the kernel cache, which are automatically created again as needed."

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac - Apple Support

"If an issue stops happening when you log out of your macOS user account and log in with another, the issue could be related to the files or settings in your user account."

Best Regards.

williamdevaughn,

Since you are not able to test the issue while in safe mode, try removing some of your log in items and see if the issue persists. Then add them back one at a time and test it with each one. This will determine if one of your background programs is interfering with the cursor disappearing.
