macOS Catalina only has the ability to run 64-Bit Applications. I suspect that your MS Office for Mac 2011 consisted of 32-Bit applications. Check with Microsoft Office Support and download 64-Bit applications for your MacBook Air and Catalina.

They are the developer’s of the software. Request a new installation - 64bit version. So, Start Here:  Microsoft Contact Us Virtual Agent - Microsoft Support.
