Safari Security Notification from websites but no updates avaialble

I'm being told that my version of Safari running on ElCap is out of compliance and poses a security risk. Yet there appear to be no updates available and my last system update appears to have been in the last 30 days.

Should I just jettison Safari?

Safari 11.1.2 on El Capitan 10.11 was only supported until 2018. Pretty sure that the warning is trying to let you know it's time to move on to something that's supported currently. You won't be able to update your browser because the OS is not capable of running a more up to date version than the one you have.

Either up date the OS which will in turn up date the apps you use.

If this isn't an option, try an alternate browser.
