Command C / Command V not working.

Hello people, I recently (about a week ago if you're interested) bought a MacBook Pro 9,2 running Catalina 10.15.5 this is my first Mac so I'm quite unfamiliar with the os but when I press command v or command c it types v or c instead of copying or pasting even though command space works. I feel like I've tried everything from hard restarting to setting a new keyboard shortcut for it. I don't know what to do now.

Mac Terminal : /dev/fd/12:18: command not found: compdef I have noticed when I do open it I am always greeted with an error message (see attached). I have no idea how or when exactly it started showing up but I noticed it fairly recently. It also is there on new Terminal tabs and I can get rid of it by using the "clear" command. Is there a way to get rid of the message.

yes but other command shortcuts work only cmd-c cmd-v and cmd-x don't, and also I'm on a MacBook so I can't swap the keyboard

I am quite confused as to why some shortcuts using the command key are working and the copy cut and paste shortcuts aren't

How about a normal app? Microsoft has some weird ideas about allowing copy and paste in the browser.

Does the problem occur in all apps? If so try the keyboard on another Mac to rule out (or in) a hardware issue.

I would boot into Recovery and reinstall macOS. I can't think of any other ideas.
