Moving default video import location iMovie 09 (8.0.6)

Hi,

I have a Mac Mini running Snow Leopard (for other legacy software). I have iMovie 09 (8.0.6) on it. I use this to import old camcorder tapes for archival purposes.

These videos eat up a lot of space on the internal drive so I want to switch default import location to an external drive, and move what I have already digitized there too, with iMovie being able to see it and work with video stored there. Then delete the clips from the internal drive.

I was able to do this on my other computer running Sierra & a more recent iMovie, but this older version doesn't allow me to do it the same way.

So how do I move my default import location to an external and then move the current library to the same place, to clear out space on my internal HD.

iMovie 09, ver 8.0.6.

Thanks for all help / suggestions

Duane

To Copy or Move a project to an external Hard Disk this link

But note an error in this. EVENT should read PROJECT

If you want to consolidate a project's media this link

If you move both Events and Projects to an external drive then probably no need or possible to consolidate.

What this means is that if you move only the projects then consolidating provides access to the media that the projects require.

If you move both E and P to external drive then P will have access to E anyway.

Make sure you note the difference in commands for Copy and Move.

Suggest you do Copy not Move and check all is OK before deleting anything from internal.

Do not delete from internal until you have checked that everything has been copied over to external and that you can operate events and projects from the external.

To import to an external drive you select the external drive when you import. You get the choice when you go through the import process.

Read through the links several times to make sure you get the process. A bit daunting at first glance.
