Circle on iPhone screen after installing screen protector

New iPhone XR - installed screen protector and now see a circle 1 " diameter when screen is dark. I was fastidious in cleaning and removing any lint, dust, etc. as I installed screen protector. What is this?

Hi!

That does sound frustrating.

Possibly a defect screen protector? The slightest bump in it would lift it from the screen and create a circle of air underneath.

Thanks - I suspected that it might be the protector itself, but wasn't sure why.
