Charging case no light

Hello. I recently bought new AirPods and no matter how many times I click the setup button there is no light. The only time there is a light is when it is charging and I open the case and there is flashing amber. Please help I spent $200. On my phone it says “connect AirPods” but the connect always fails. What do I do now?
