photos deleted from iCloud are still on my iPhone

I just deleted a bunch of photos and videos in my iCloud account, but they are still available on my iPhone. I'm surprised, because before I deleted each video or photo, iCloud gave me a warning that they would be deleted from all my devices. That doesn't seem to be the case. Can someone help?
