Is the Apple Watch series four compatible with the iPhone 6? My iPhone is updated with the 12.4.2 software but when I go to pair my watch to my phone it says I need a system update. When I go to check updates on my phone it says my system is up to date.

The two models of the Series 4 Watch require iPhone 5s or later for the GPS version and iPhone 6 or later for the GPS + Cellular version.
As to the iPhone 6, there is supposed to be an iOS version 12.4.6 that is the last version of iOS for that phone, that was released in MAR 2020.

That indicates the Watch has been updates to watchOS 6 with requires an iPhone 6s with iOS 13 or later.
