downloaded garage band is missing menus

iMac running 10.13.6

I downloaded the latest version of Garage Band because mine was old (2017). When it was all over, GB is now missing most of the menu items. Have I got to start all over again or is there something I can do to rectify this situation?

I now realise the error of my ways! Should have read the user guide — menus blanked out until you create a Project. Duuurh!
