I am trying to update my computer to El Capitan and I am being told that OS X could not be installed on your computer. I dont see a serial number on my imac and I know it was purchased new from apple. I am still on that screen. Restarted twice,

I am trying to update my computer to El Capitan and I am being told that OS X could not be installed on your computer. I dont see a serial number on my imac and I know it was purchased new from apple. I am still on that screen. Restarted twice. Every time I quit and restart it tries to install.

If the computer is freezing on boot, then "About this Mac..." wont be available.


If this an iMac with "foot" type of metal stand, look for the serial number on the bottom of the foot.


Try booting into Safe Mode:
