Plantronics Savi headset grayed-out as input in GarageBand

I am new to GarageBand and would like to record a voice-over using my Plantronics Savi 8220 headset. However, whenever I try to record after selecting the headset as the input source I get a pop-up message stating "no-input". When looking at the track recording settings, I see that the "PLT Savi" selection has a check mark next to it but it's greyed-out. Also, there is no mic volume detected. This headset supports both Bluetooth and USB connectivity options, and have the same result.

When selecting "Built-in Microphone" as the Input Device in GarageBand Audio/MIDI preferences, I can record using that mic no problem.

When looking at the System (MacOS) preferences and selecting the PLT Savi as the mic source, I can see the input level bars moving. So this headset seems fine at the OS level.

Furthermore, I can use this same Plantronics headset for other applications such as softphones and Zoom.

I've attached images of the GB UI when attempting to configure the headset vs. built-in mic.

Any suggestions to dealing with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi alex_h1,

I have reviewed the links provided. Thank you.

In the OP, I stated:

"When selecting "Built-in Microphone" as the Input Device in GarageBand Audio/MIDI preferences, I can record using that mic no problem."

If GB did not have permission to access the microphone or if I had missed any steps in the "Before recording audio" instructions, "Built-in Microphone" would not have worked.

I think these two basic troubleshooting steps were covered before I posted. Can we please move on to some real troubleshooting?

Hello Clint_anon,

Thank you for reaching out in Apple Support Communities. We understand that you have a Plantronics headset that is greyed out in GarageBand, for the input source.

Using your favorite accessories on a Mac is important to complete your projects. We'll be happy to help.

We recommend to verify that GarageBand has access to the microphone through the Security & Privacy preferences of your Mac: Control access to your microphone on Mac

In addition, we suggest to review the section in this article that says, "Before recording audio" for the appropriate steps to take in GarageBand: Before recording audio

Please keep us posted with the results.

Best regards.
