Click of the trackpad

I know the click can't be disabled on older Macs, but I bought my MacBook Air earlier this year (2020), is there a way I can silence the click of the trackpad please. (It's driving me mad!), Thanks, K.

My MacBook Pro lost its setting for "silent clicking" for the trackpad I had the clicking sound on the trackpad enable and since I updated to the latest macOS I do not longer have the option. I have tried multiple restarts and resettings that apple support team told me and none worked.

switch off touchpad click sound I am working on MacBook Air 13 inch 2017 running Mac OS Catalina 10.15.4. How can I disable the click sound of the Touch Bar? Standard Apple support instructions tell me that in the system preferences window left hand side underneath the 3 basic dialog boxes there is a ruler to switch it off. However on my system preferences this function is not present:
