Opening ports to remote play Playstaion

I have a airport time capsule and I wanted to be able to play my Playstaion when not on home network. I have the PS4 set up to allow access but my laptop will not connect, Playstaion support says Confirm that all of the ports >UDP 9296, UDP 9297, UDP 9303 are open. I went into TC, under advance and I see port settings, I click on that and it asks for new entry

i tap on choose a service and it shows

I don’t know what to choose, any ideas ?

Before you dig too deeply, it might be a good idea confirm that the Time Capsule really is the "main" router on your network. In other words, the Time Capsule needs to be connected directly to a simple modem.......the kind with only one Ethernet port.

If the Time Capsule is connected to a modem/router, also known as a gateway.......then you cannot set up port mapping or port forwarding on the Time Capsule. It won't work, even if you have the "correct" port settings.

Just trying to save you some time here, as a number of users mistakenly try to set up the Time Capsule to port forward when they have a modem/router or gateway, and they wonder why things won't work.

If you have a simple modem, it might first make sense to see if you can access the Time Capsule settings from a remote location over the Internet.....before.....you try to look at port settings. The reason for a "test" like this.......if you can't access the Time Capsule over the Internet, then port forwarding will never work. You will need a Mac for this though......an iPhone / iPad does not have the ability to perform this type of "test".

Open Airport Utility, click on the Time Capsule and then click Edit in the smaller window that appears

Click the Base Station tab at the top of the next window

Make sure that there is a check mark next to Allow Setup over WAN

Click Update to save the changes

Next, you will need to note the Time Capsule Public IP address

Open Airport Utility again and click on the picture of the Time Capsule

The IP Address will be listed near the top of the information

Check with your ISP to insure that they are providing you with a Static Public IP Address for the Time Capsule. If they aren't, the IP address of the Time Capsule will change, perhaps daily, and you will not be able to access it remotely unless you have the current IP Address for the Time Capsule at the time.

When you are at a remote location like the coffee place, log onto the WiFi network there

Open AirPort Utility

Click on the File menu in the upper left corner of the screen

Click on Configure Other

Enter the Time Capsule Public IP Address

Enter the Time Capsule admin password

Click OK

If successful, you will be able to access all of the settings for the Time Capsule in AirPort Utility, which will confirm that you can reach the Time Capsule from a remote location over the Internet

Follow the instructions provided by Tesserax to set up the port information.

I am assuming that you goal is to open those ports on the TC so that you can access your PlayStation from a remote location ... correct?

Even if you configure port mapping on the TC properly, you will come across at least, two obstacles:

  • The WAN-side address of your network, hosting the Playstation, needs to be reachable from the Internet.
  • Both the downstream & upstream Internet capability on both the Playstation's home router and the one that you will be connected to at a remote location needs to be sufficient to handle the data flow.

Honestly, I've never tried to do this personally as I don't see the performance-hit worth it, but that's just me.
