Change Apple Music free trial plan

I recently started a 3 month trial of Apple Music, and selected an Individual plan but would now like to switch to a Family plan.

I have found responses to a few similar questions from a year ago that say that switching does not affect the trial period, but when I go to change the plan now I get the following message "Your upgrade will start now. You'll receive a refund for the remainder of your current subscription." It then shows the amount to be charged and asks for authorisation.

That message reads like my current free trial will be "refunded", and that I'll immediately start paying for a Family plan. Is that correct? Has the situation changed since the last person asked this question about a year ago? The links that are usually given in response to this question do not actually answer this point - they just tell you how to switch (which I already know how to do).

If you can indeed still switch without affecting your free trial, can Apple please update their support pages to clearly state this fact, and let people know to ignore the poorly worded warning message when you go to switch?

As with any trial offer, you can't have both a paid plan and a trial offer on the same Apple ID at one time.

If you pull the trigger on the paid subscription, your trial ends.
