Ringer volume blasts through Bluetooth speaker

I have an iPhone X with iOS 13.5.1 and connect to an Altec Lansing Baby Boom Bluetooth speaker to play music. It's quiet around me, so I have the audio volume at the lowest level. If I get a call (through Phone or Microsoft Teams), the ringer blasts through the speaker at a very high volume, which is really disruptive and startling. I have the Mute switch enabled, no other notification sounds go through the speaker.

How do I disable the ringer through the Bluetooth speaker when the mute switch is enabled?
