I have a non smart tv, older LG that is set up with apple tv. The volume works but the power will not turn on or off on my tv with the apple tv remote

I have an older LG tv that is not a smart tv. I have setup my apple tv to it and it controls the volume, but cannot turn the tv on or off with the apple tv remote. any solutions???

You can either use the LG's remote or purchase a universal remote such as a Logitech Harmony remote.
