Any updates on problems with WiFi not working when waking from sleep?

This problem started with Mojave but is still ongoing with Catalina 10.15. Has anyone found any fixes? It's incredibly annoying having to turn WiFi on and off after each 'wake' from sleep mode, even though it appears connected.

Hey AGEBREmed,

I see that you're having an issue where Wi-Fi disconnects when waking up your MacBook Pro from sleep.

Make sure that the network is set to automatically join by going to Apple menu > System Preferences > Network > select the network and ensure that "Automatically join this network" is selected.

If that doesn't help, reset the SMC to see if this helps with the issue: How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support.

Have a great day.

PsyDye — the network was set to automatically join my home WiFi (the problem was never that it didn't show the connected icon at the top of the screen—it simply never loaded websites/refreshed Mail, etc whilst apparently 'connected'), but your second idea of resetting the SMC seems to have worked like magic!

I'll add a post if things go back to how they were (hopefully not) but so far the WiFi always works perfectly after waking from sleep!

Not only that, but the Mac is now lightning-fast loading applications etc.

Thanks ever so much.

Hey AGEBREmed,

Thanks for reaching back out. See if the same issue happens when putting the Mac to sleep. Safe mode can help tell us if the issue is possible login items: How to use safe mode on your Mac.

If you experience the same issue in safe mode and even after restarting normally again, see if it happens in a test user account. Creating a test user account can help determine if the issue is caused by third-party software: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac. There's steps to take further in that resource, depending if the issue happens in the test user account or not but you can also let us know the results.

Cheers.

Sadly, it was only a temporary fix—the WiFi still doesn't work when waking from sleep. Just to re-iterate that the WiFi is connected and works on other devices, and it works immediately when I turn it on and off on this Mac too! The problem is purely when it's been 'asleep' for a while. E.g. in the screenshot below, we can see that the WiFi is fully connected by the icon at the top but the Safari progress bar has been stuck like this for the past few minutes when trying to load the John Lewis website from another webpage (Mail, Outlook etc. aren't refreshing either). Everything worked perfectly as soon as I turned the WiFi off and then back on. What's going on? It's infuriating!
