The Wifi card on my 2010 MacBook Pro has gone out

The Wifi card on my 2010 Macbook pro has gone out. Is there a compatible external wireless setup that I can use temporarily unttil I can have my laptop serviced? Most of the selections I’ve seen seem to suggest that they simply enhance current wifi. Would the fact that I don’t have a working wifi card affect this?
