problems with my epson 2480 scanner

Suddenly my epson 2480 photo scanner has developed a problem. if I plug in in to power the green light comes on OK but as soon as I connect the Cable to the computer it gives a sort of squeak and the green light changes to red. I have tried switching everything off etc and the trouble shooting says it can't find a problem. If I unplug it from the computer it goes back to green.

Its the same with a different cable and properties status says it is working

Does anyone know what could be wrong with it ?
