I am trying to use Migration Assistant to transfer my files between my old MacBook Pro & my new one. It will not go past the “looking for source” step. Both are connected to the same WiFi & they are next to each other.

Does each Mac have a different name? As I recall, there is an issue if the computers are named the same.
If the names are the same, change one at System Preferences > Sharing
Have you opened Migration Assistant on your old Mac?
