Static monitor screen when waking up from sleep

I have a brand new Mac Mini connected to a HP - 31.5" IPS LED FHD Monitor. After going to sleep, when the computer wakes up the monitor displays static. I have to turn the monitor off and on again, which usually does the trick, but why is this happening?

Thanks for posting a link to the Monitor you have.

  1. Try resetting the NVRAM, as per > Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
  2. If you are using that HP HDMI cable that came with the monitor, try using a different HDMI cable.
  3. Check the HP manual and see if there is a way to lock the monitor in on the HDMI input from the Mac Mini.
