my mail loads fine on my MacBook but new inboxes won't come through but will come through on my phone. I can't refresh it. tried new mail using the up key command and N but that just opens a new email. any ideas?

While in the Mail app inbox view, press the Command + Shift + N keys to refresh email accounts and attempt to get all new emails that may be waiting on the email servers.
Another way to check for new email is select “Mailbox” from the menu bar and choose “Get New Mail”.
You can also add the icon to check for new email in your Mail toolbar. Check out the fourth option in this article to see how: Customize toolbars on Mac
