Add a calendar subscription

I want to add another subscribed calendar to my iPhone. I have added others without issue. The calendar is google based and not associated with my personal email.

After I enter the public link to the calendar I get a pop up

“Cannot connect using SSL - Do you want to try setting up account without SSL?” Once I select continue a new pop up says “Calendar Subscription - Unable to verify account information.

i have seen a few others online with this issue, but no resolution. Can anyone help?
