Mid 2014 MacBook Pro battery not recognized

I just installed a new battery on my MacBook. The battery icon shows an X on icon at the login screen and shows that no battery is available in the power settings or in coconut battery app after logging in. The laptop will not turn on without being plugged in to the MagSafe charger.

I’ve tried resetting the smc and pram several times. This initially worked but when I tried swapping the ssd it seemed to trigger the unrecognized battery. Any suggestions on how to fix this is much appreciated.
