Random Ringing

Why does my phone randomly ring when no one is calling? No caller info is displayed and end the call to stop the ring. I just upgraded from 6 to XR a week ago and they both do it.

iPhone XR, iOS 13

Hello saleemah241,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are having an issue with unexpected ringing on your iPhone, and this happened on your old iPhone as well.

Let's first make sure you have checked all your notification settings for each app:

Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Also check the ringtones you have set for incoming calls as well:

Use tones and ringtones with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Lastly, check your call history to see if it shows any missed calls:

View and delete the call history on your iPhone

Cheers!

My settings are where they have been since I purchased the iPhone 6 long ago. This issue started about 2 months ago. Let’s say I’m in the middle of something, anything - typing an e-mail, browsing on Amazon, calculating bills - the phone will start ringing and nothing ever shows on the screen. I’m still in whatever app I’m using but none of the keys work. I can close it to go to the phone keypad but the Answer key doesn’t do anything when I press it. I can’t silence or mute it. Finally, the ringing stops but there are no recent or missed calls, nothing in blocked calls, and no voicemail messages.

Thanks for replying, saleemah241, and that additional info, it really helps! If you haven't already, make sure your iPhone is up to date and also that you install any available carrier updates:

Update the iOS software on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Update your carrier settings on your iPhone or iPad

Next, make sure you have Settings > General > Language & Region set correctly and also that you uninstall any apps that are for call blocking and identification by going to Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification and then test your issue again:

Detect and block spam phone calls

Have a great day and thanks for using the Apple Support Communities!
