KensingtonWorks Expert Mouse NOT Working Well With Catalina

I recently upgraded to KensingtonWorks from TrackballWorks on Catalina 10.15.5. TrackballWorks had no issues with Catalina other than the fact I kept getting warning messages that it would no longer be supported on future OS versions, so I decided to download Kensington's new version. TERRIBLE idea.

The movement of the cursor with the new software is glitchy, my setting choices don't perform how they should, and the settings I do change are reset when I restart my mac. One interesting quirk is that my mouse seems to perform speed-wise just fine with all my apps EXCEPT for google chrome- as soon as I open Chrome, the mouse gets extremely slow and upon checking the apple mouse utility, I find that the speed has been lowered all the way to the lowest setting.

I've been in a back and forth conversation with Kensington support for a few days now with no luck. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hello cparkerec4,

Thanks for that info and for choosing the Apple Support Communities. If we understand correctly, you are having an issue with Kensington Expert Mouse and your Mac, even after working with Kensington support. You can figure out if unexpected behavior is related to a user file or setting by trying to reproduce the issue from another user account. This process includes creating a new user account, logging in to it, and testing for the issue. Also, if this is the wireless model, please see if there could be interference causing issues.

How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

Next, use safe mode to start up your Mac as it does the following things:

  • Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed
  • Loads only required kernel extensions
  • Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically
  • Disables user-installed fonts
  • Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

Log in to your user account and test the issue while in safe mode and then restart normally and test the issue again.

How to use safe mode on your Mac

Graphics performance limited in macOS Recovery, safe mode, or Guest User mode

Cheers!
