Missing camera info in EXIF when exporting

Hi all

I use Photos for Mac to process all my photos including those from my non-iPhone camera. I have noticed recently that the camera info has been stripped out of exif whenever I export from Photos (I checked the boxes on title and location information) when exporting. I did not have this problem before.

Now you see it...

Now you don't

Any suggestions on what I can try would be useful.

Thanks,

Are you using external photo editing extensions?

I am seeing the same, when I am exporting photos from Photos, that have been edited with Luminar or other external editors. The Camera model is missing from the exif, sometimes even the lens.

I am adding the missing exif back with exiftool, after I exported photos from Photos. (Modifying EXIF tags of Originals Using exiftool: camera, lens, gps)

exiftool has to be used from the Terminal to from scripts or Automator.

To use exiftool I have to export the photos and reimport them.

I would check by exporting the unmodified original and then open the exported photo with Preview. Open the Inspector in Preview and check all exif and IPTC tags. (in Preview: Tools > Show Inspector).

Does Preview show the camera information?

If you have exiftool installed (https://exiftool.org), you can check the exif tags in the Terminal.

  • Open a Terminal window
  • type exiftool and a space
  • drag the original image file onto the line behind the text "exiftool" and hit return.

You will see a long list of all exif tags. Is there a camera tag or Len tag at all?
