Unable to completely silence speaker output on iPad or iPhone (volume down & bell icon red — still hear speaker sound)
Okay, we all know that previously we could completely mute sound output from speakers on an iPad or iPhone when on a call (FaceTime or Zoom) by a) turning volume button down and b) swiping down from top to view controls and clicking the bell icon so it turns red. But this NO LONGER works — there’s still audible sound (low volume but clearly noticeable) coming from the speakers — tested this both on iPhone XsMax and iPad Pro 12.9” (running latest versions of iOS (13.5.1 on both iPhone, and iPad Pro).
Try it yourself and see — make a video call (Facetime or Zoom) when connected you CAN NOT silence the speaker output on the device 100% even with volume down and bell-icon red (there is still low level but audible sound coming from the speaker). Note that when pressing the volume down button on side of device the volume slider icon never lets the sound bar go to zero with an X to show no audio — there’s still a bit of sound bar showing low volume — which is exactly what the device is doing (low volume speaker output — even with bell-icon red in silent mode)). What’s the solution? An update from Apple I believe.
