How do I clear "other" from mac storage? It takes up most of my storage and I don't even know what it consists of.... I need to download the MacOS Catalina and it is not allowing me to do so for this reason.

Other is a category and not a specific file or folder location. Some of the files that macOS considers "Other" are installers (.dmg, .pkg, .zip, .iso), large camera raw files, large movie files, large PDF documents, your Music library, Many of these items other than your Music library may be in your Downloads folder.
