Iphone X unable to connect to Itunes

When plugging into my iPhone X into my macbook it is unable to connect to itunes. I get no message, its as if the computer doesn't realize my device is connected. I have troubleshooted by using different USB cords, restarting my phone and macbook. I checked system information on my macbook to see if it recognizes the phone is plugged in and it does recognize it. My iPhone is taking a charge when plugged into the macbook. Everything is updated.

I am bewildered to why my iPhone X doesn't pop up on iTunes, I dont receive any message saying to connect or not to connect. Any help would be appreciated!
