Can I move documents to the cloud, delete the from the machine, and not delete them from the both?

If I move everything to the cloud to save space on the machine and delete the files from the computer will then still exist in iCloud so they may be retrieved?

If you have a iCloud Drive enabled, then no you cannot do that without also having the files on your computer as well. It is possible through iCloud.com without iCloud Drive being enabled, but it's not very convenient.

Have you considered optimisation in order to save space on your Mac?
