iMovie Picture In Picture FADE-OUT forces FADE-IN to occur

I've got a clip that I add as "picture in picture" to another clip.

I want the PIP clip to just fade out.

But when I select the handles at the end of the clip to fade it out, the handles at the BEGINNING of the clip also move to create a fade-in, WHICH I DON'T WANT.

How do I separate these actions?
